General information about extracts
from dried plants
 |
Besides the classical extracts or tinctures from fresh plants
Alpinamed produces various liquid and dry extracts from dried plants.
The dried plant is first chopped according the later used method
of extraction (cut for percolation, fine cut or powder). The material
is subsequently mixed with purified water or a mixture of water/ethanol
at temperatures between 20 – 80 ° Celsius and extracted
through percolation
method or maceration method.
In special cases oily macerations can also be produced.
|
The mixture of plant/water-ethanol is as a rule pressed after one day
(separation of the solid residuals). Subsequently, the processed material
(by maceration or percolation) is standardised or normalized, thereafter
centrifuged or filtered.
With dry extracts the process is followed by a concentration of the obtained
material to a viscous fluid - or spissum extract. The latter it is then
smoothly dried either in a vacuum oven – or through a special spray
method at lowest possible temperatures.
The then obtained raw extract is – depending the requirements for
granulates – chopped with special mills und screened. If dry granulation
is required, the raw extract is compacted in a form applicable for a direct
pressing into tablets.
